As the snow falls, the nights grow longer, and the days get a little chillier – we approach the holiday season. You’re probably starting your search for spots to find gifts and treasures for everyone on your list. And while you’ve been making your lists and checking them twice, we’ve made a list of our own. Here’s our list of places, markets and events to go holiday shopping in the Tri-Region…
Spruce Grove Silver Bells Winter Market
Annually held the beginning of December at Spruce Grove’s Tri Leisure Centre, the Silver Bells Winter Market is an excellent place to search for that one-of-a-kind gift. Browse through the booths and vendors and you’ll find pottery, beauty products, home goods, kitchen gadgets, clothing, yummy treats, handcrafted items and much more. This year the Spruce Grove Silver Bells Winter Market takes place on December 1st, 2018.
Holiday Craft Market at Holborn Community Hall
Nestled in southern Parkland County, Holborn’s Holiday Craft Market promises interesting gift ideas and lots of unique crafts. Plus, word has it – a special guest (read: Santa Claus!) will be there too. So, pack a to-go mug of hot cocoa for the drive and head to Holborn on December 1st, 2018 from 10am to 4pm.
Handmade Holidays at Duffield Public Library
There’s always something special about handmade gifts. Handmade Holidays events at Duffield Public Library are a chance for teens to learn how to make Christmas cards, poinsettia wreaths, tile coasters and other handcrafted items. These free events take place on two consecutive Thursdays in December (6th & December 13th, 2018) from 3:30pm to 5pm. As a bonus, the Hamlet of Duffield is located in between Carvel and Wabamun, giving you the chance to shop for gifts yourself.
Clymont Christmas Craft Sale
Saturday, November 24th & Sunday, November 25th, 2018 – head just west of Edmonton for the Clymont Christmas Craft Sale. This event offers free admission, free gift bag draws and a chance to meet Santa Claus (both days from 1pm to 3pm. This craft sale features over 40 artisans, a concession and a pancake breakfast!
Holiday Shopping at the Stony Plain Farmer’s Market
Did you know the Stony Plain Farmer’s Market runs every Saturday from March to late December each year? That’s a significant amount of opportunities to browse the market’s 70+ vendors. During the holiday season, you’ll find lots of of these vendors getting into the spirit of the season while on the hunt for gifts, seasonal treats and goodies.
Even More Places to Holiday Shop in the Tri-Region
Stony Plain – Downtown Stony Plain transforms into an a Christmas card-like scene during the holidays. The giant Christmas tree, beautiful snow and decorations are the ideal backdrop for some small-town-charm holiday shopping.
Spruce Grove – The City of Spruce offers you both big name stores and local shops. The best of both worlds, Spruce Grove is an excellent destination for an evening/weekend shopping excursion.
Parkland County – An array of boutiques and shops exist throughout Parkland County. Here’s a fun idea: make a day of it and plan a holiday shopping driving tour throughout the County! We suggest checking out Carvel General Store, 52nd Street Marketplace in Wabamun and Spruce Park Ranch Country Store. Spruce Park Ranch annually hosts their Country Christmas event in early November (this year: November 2nd to 4th, 2018) – a kickoff to the festive season, and their biggest weekend of the year.
Wherever your gift giving search takes you, here’s to a season full of merry and bright shopping throughout the Tri-Region. Have fun, enjoy the experience and a happy 2019 to you!
