Sparkling Christmas mantel

Start with a bevvie and home-baked treat at Phina’s coffee bar on Stony Plain’s main street (50 St), then browse the shop’s huge assortment of decorations. Since mom’s tree is already full to bursting – hand-pick an arrangement for her Christmas fireplace or bookshelf. Check out their blog on how to arrange the perfect winter mantel with natural accents, LED angels and frosted branches.

Sweet soft cuddly dreams

Give the gift of a beautiful sleep with Egyptian cotton sheets from Kountry Korner just down the block from Phina’s. Their Angel Collection sheets are soft and shiny, 1800 thread count and come in every colour of the rainbow – check out their whole selection on Facebook. They also carry one-piece PJs for grown-ups – and trust me, if you’ve never tried them, there is nothing cozier in the whole wide world.

Cute and country wall art

The Country Pumpkin is tucked away in a little strip mall just a few blocks away from Stony’s downtown. This shop is full of country charm – and the perfect place to pick out one of those cute signs with adorable sayings on them – “This house under elf surveillance” or “Keep calm, build a snowman” – plus you’ll find locally-made art and furniture, tree decorations and handmade quilts.

Yummy bath goodies

One of the best sellers at the Carvel General Store is the luxurious Venus Envy Mustard Bath – it’s so popular here that they sell it in bulk. You’ll also find lacey cotton nighties, handmade traditional mukluks, teapots, ornaments and all natural laundry products. The shop occupies a century-old general store in the charming little hamlet of Carvel – 17 minutes west of Stony. It’s worth the little drive to see this shop – you’ll spend awhile here browsing the packed shelves and chatting with the friendly owners, luckily coffee and tea are always on.

Candlelight to rum-and-egg-nog by

Spruce Park Ranch Country Store – 10 minutes south of Spruce Grove – has Parkland County’s largest selection of candles in mouthwatering scents like Butter Maple Syrup, Cinnamon Sticks and Peach Cobbler. Yum. You’ll find traditional wax and soy candles and battery-operated timer candles and flicker tapers – plus, candle rings, candle holders and reed diffusers too. The shop also sells local honey and eggs for all that baking you’re about to do, plus countrified furniture and rustic home décor.
