As the weather begins to get warmer, your mind might be dreaming of glorious sunshine-filled days – and that means it’s time to start your summertime planning! Summer is for the outdoors and there’s nothing more Albertan than spending your weekend mornings checking out the latest wares at a farmers’ market. Here’s an overview of some of the farmers’ markets you should add to your Tri-Region must do list for this summer and beyond.
Carvel Station Farmers’ Market
Taking place every Thursday night beginning May 10th and going all summer long until August 30th, 2018. The rule with Carvel Station Farmers’ Market is if it’s handmade, homegrown or locally produced, expect to find it here – each week a differing roster of vendors than the last!
52nd Street Marketplace
This market runs year-round, cycling between outdoor and indoor iterations based on the weather but one constant is this Wabamun treasure having the best assortment of vintage chic, collectibles, local works from artists and plenty of vendor goods. Did we mention there’s a cafe with some of Wabamun’s best coffee nestled in the marketplace?
Stony Plain Community Street Market
In June and September, Stony Plain teams up with One Man’s Treasure to bring about a huge outdoor main street garage sale you just have to see. We’re talking over a hundred tables stuffed to the max with antiques, crafts, local goods, gently used items and plenty of other hidden treasures waiting for you. As a bonus, significant chunk of proceeds from the market – including a huge concession/BBQ stand – go to local charities.
The Country Market (at Aspen Grove Nurseries)
Hosted at Aspen Grove Nurseries, The Country Market does things a bit differently. Each weekend in May, the greenhouse sees a new set of vendors, ranging from the homegrown to the homemade. Visitors are encouraged to a bring picnic blanket – nothing’s better than eating just-purchased, fresh goodies at a picnic.
Seba Beach Farmers’ Market
If you’re looking for a great excuse to try a scenic drive, make Seba Beach your destination endpoint. Their Saturday morning markets are an excellent source for local baked goods, meat products, fresh veggies, seafood, fruit, wood crafts and pottery, worthy of the day trip you’re about to embark upon. Seba Beach Farmers’ Market runs from May 12th to September 8th, 2018.
Spruce Grove Farmers’ Market
The Spruce Grove Farmers’ Market starts April 7th, 2018 and runs until December 2018. This community staple held at the historic Grain Elevator is a great spot to track down some awesome handcrafted goods and take in some fantastic homemade food.
Spruce Grove Public Market
The Spruce Grove Public Markets, found in Columbus Park, are monthly markets within the heart of Spruce Grove’s City Centre. These Public Markets are filled with plenty of live music, vendors, crafts, food trucks and other family friendly activities. The August 12, 2018 market is special as it will host the 2nd Annual Art Walk. There is no admission, come out and enjoy the event with us! Markets take place July 15th, August 12th, August 26th and September 9th, 2018.
Stony Plain Farmers’ Market
The Stony Plain Farmers’ Market runs from March 31st to December 22nd, 2018, boasting vendors that deal in nature paintings, leather crafts, homemade fudge, handcrafted gemstone jewelry and much more. You can find their markets at the Stony Plain Community Centre on Saturday mornings. This market has been running strong since 1974!
