The Hills of Hope Historical Society was founded in 1975. The area referred to as the “Hills of Hope” is in Parkland County stretching from Range Road 20 west to Range Road 52 and from the border with Lac Ste. Anne County south to the North Saskatchewan River.
The Society’s mission is to preserve the history of the area, where possible, and to aid other community groups in their endeavours to do the same. Two book projects have been completed: Hills of Hope (yellow) in 1976 and Hills of Hope-The Next Generation (red) in 2002. The Historical Society has erected a number of signs and cairns of historical interest recalling early fur trading posts, early settlers who helped develop the communities of the area, and the many school districts which dotted the Hills of Hope. These projects are ongoing throughout the area.
In 2005 the Alberta Historical Resources Foundation presented the Hills of Hope Historical Society with the Heritage Awareness Award in recognition of our exemplary contribution to local, regional and provincial history.
