My loving husband, come away with me. We’ll take the kids to Grandma’s and get out of town. We’ll sit by the fire, take long bubble baths and eat a hot breakfast – our favourite. Pick any one of these B&Bs and please let’s break out of this madhouse just for one night. Love, Wifey

This is a 1910 Victorian heritage house in Stony Plain and they’ll bring us trays of goodies when we arrive, before bed and in the morning. Plus we can go have homemade pie at the Homesteader’s Kitchen (and take some to go for later), walk around Stony’s cute downtown and check out the antiques at One Man’s Treasure. Then back to the room for snuggles and a full night’s sleep uninterrupted by children. In the morning, someone brings us a locally sourced four-course breakfast on the veranda.
This big house has lots of windows facing right onto Lake Wabamun and two sundecks. This is how I imagine it going down: we rent the whole house – though I’d like to sleep in the Loon Loft because it has a pink velvet couch. We can try and bring Michelle and Tyler, Glen and Brenda. We spend two days in this comfortable and open lakefront home with sunsets, stars, birds, campfires, fishing, canoeing and the big cast iron bathtub.
This is a quiet country retreat with gardens, ponds and beavers in the creek, singing birds and woodpeckers tapping the trees. We can have breakfast on the sunny veranda overlooking the lawn and garden. We’ll find the bridge and the natural creek, admire Linda and Zane’s impeccable flowerbeds and watch the model steam train makes its run – we’ll have to get a picture for Tiny. He’ll get a kick out of that.

Now we could bring the kids here and the dog. This B&B is nestled in pretty countryside near Devon – right by Blackhawk if you want to teach Tiny to golf. Or we can run the kids and the dogs on the five acre fenced property. There’s a big round fireplace in the common room and a family suite with lots of space, a big bathtub and private fireplace. We’ll get fresh baking and fruit in the morning and hot breakfast on weekends. It’s a different kind of romance altogether, but a good one – as long as we’re together.
