Bed and Breakfast getaways for two

Tri Region Tourism Accommodation, Bed & Breakfasts, Day Trip Ideas, Itinerary

We know, time is tight and so is money, but between overtime on Friday and the kids’ lessons on Monday, here’s how to make your weekend getaway happen. Drop the kids and their stuffies with their favourite cousins and drive into the country for a night of R&R at one of these affordable B&Bs just west of Edmonton in the Tri-region.

Rare Gem in Stony Plain

Just a few steps off Stony Plain’s historic Main Street you’ll find Rare Gem B&B – in a immaculately restored 1910 heritage home. Shelley and Robert will show you to the luxurious King Suite, welcome you with tray of goodies and let you settle in. Maybe you’ll lounge in front of the fireplace, melt into a puddle of bliss in the infrared sauna or soak away your worries in the heart-shaped soaker tub. You’ll enjoy a tuck-in tray and a long deep sleep in a four-poster bed under fine linens. Wake to a wake-up tray – trays of yummy stuff are their trademark – and breakfast is a four-course extravaganza of local and seasonal goodies in the dining room or parlour.

Retreat to Greystone Gardens

Greystone Gardens country retreat is just 20 minutes south of Spruce Grove by the Devonian. Cuddle up in one of their two cozy bedrooms or lounge, watch TV and play pool in the common area. Linda and Zane will serve you a delicious hot breakfast in the dining room or, in the summer, on the sunny verandah overlooking their incredible gardens. The beautiful grounds and gardens are a popular location for weddings and photo shoots in the warm months – and it has a little train that runs around the house (I know a little guy that would go bananas for that – maybe you do too).

Beachfront at Whitewood Sands

The Whitewood Sands B&B on the shores of Lake Wabamun is a great choice for a quiet couple’s getaway or a place to bring the old gang together. Soak in the cast iron soaker tub, roast hot dogs round the fire pit, cross-country ski on the lake or hang out in the warm living room and catch up over beverages. The suite has a kitchen, two sundecks for catching the sunset and a BBQ – and you’ll be provided a continental breakfast for the morning.

Family getaway at HighRigg

HighRigg Retreat – just outside the city limits – is a friendly relaxed B&B where you can bring the kids and the dog for a couple of nights. The Family Suite sleeps up to four adults and four kids and has two bathrooms – one with a deep soaker tub for mom. Play board games by the round fireplace in the common room or bunk down in front of the brick fireplace in your room. Includes a help-yourself breakfast with fruit, coffee, tea and fresh baking on weekdays and a full breakfast on weekends. And for the dog – he just loves to be included – the property has a kennel/run and five fenced acres for you and him to roam.
